Self-Care & Soul-Care Will Save You!

When we think of “self-care” we often relate it to being selfish. As women, we are taught that being self-LESS and putting others needs before our own is the epitome of being a good woman, mother, wife etc. Our culture rewards us for being selfless.

But many of us are realizing that running on empty, being over-committed and being constantly exhausted and depleted are not sustainable and that it is leaving us feeling like shells of ourselves. We are merely surviving, while thriving seems completely unattainable.

It can seem counterintuitive to us, but the more we create experiences for ourselves that make us feel joy, love, and serenity, the more energy we have to show up authentically for ourselves and for others.

What’s the Difference Between Self-Care and Soul-Care? (Spoiler alert: We need both!)

Self-care is the action: taking a walk in nature, reading a great book, or learning the ukulele. It’s doing the things that support our health and well-being.

Soul-care is the feeling: fulfillment, happiness, gratitude, freedom or peace. Soul-care means savoring, appreciating and holding onto the feelings you get from the actions you take. Doing the things helps us to build self-esteem and believe we are worthy and deserving of health, well-being and care. It gives us the space to feel our feelings, know ourselves better, and to grow.

Your soul will thank you infinitely for caring.

Why does soul-care matter?

Soul-care is caring for all of the parts of ourselves. Everything about us needs care in order to thrive. Attending to our basic needs is not enough to live a fully blossomed life. In addition to basic necessities of survival, like food, water and shelter, we need love, belonging, purpose, and peace. If only parts of ourselves are nourished, our bodies and minds will show the cracks. We can’t run on empty feeling tired, depleted and upset and expect to be ok. All living things need and require care and you are not an exception!  Let me help you get there.
